The history of men's bracelets
Share
Men´s bracelets might seem like a modern trend, but their roots stretch back across centuries and cultures. Worn by warriors, kings and everyday men, bracelets have always been more than decoration. They´re a form of expression - symbols of status, fashion and personal style.
Today we´ll be looking at some of the forgotten history behind men´s bracelets and how these old traditions still shine thru today.
From ancient battlefields
In ancient Egypt bracelets were worn by both kings and warriors. Made of gold, bone or lapis lazuli, they were often thought to provide protection and spiritual strength. The pharaohs wore cuffs as symbols of power where every material from turquoise to gold had a unique meaning.
Fast forward to ancient Greece and Rome, where warriors entered the battlefield wearing leather bands and metal bracelets. They were not simply for aesthetics; they were believed to bring strength, courage and good fortune. For many champions these became personal talismans that stayed with them throughout life.
The 20th century revival
Men’s jewelery has had its ups and downs through history, but during the 20th century it got new life. During the 1940s and ´50s ID- bracelets became especially popular, often worn by military with engraved names or blood types. Eventually, these items made its way into the realm of mainstream fashion.
During the 1970s leather bracelets were widely adopted by the counterculture, embraced by surfers and artists alike. In the 90s and early 21st century men’s bracelets started to gain traction in the urban fashion scene, where minimalist jewelery and layered bracelets became popular.
Today bracelets continue to grow in popularity, and they´re here to stay.
Modern times
There are many reasons to love bracelets – they´re meaningful, personal and versatile. A bracelet can provide contrast, add a touch of colour or just overall elegance to your look. And then there is the sentimental aspect, whether it’s a gift from a partner, passed down through family or the latest addition in the wardrobe, bracelets often carry stories and memories.
